Community Outreach

New Life is responding to Christ's command to love our neighbours in practical ways. Some New Life people are informally carrying out this command at their work places, schools, neighbourhoods and by supporting a host of non-profit organizations. Others are actively involved in our Free Store, Soup, and Bread ministries.

New Life’s Free Store for Children

The Free Store of Children's Clothing and other items for children is located in the Greenhouse behind the main church building. It is open Tuesday and Saturday (except long weekends) mornings 9:30 am-noon. Parents come from near and far to get much needed items for their children and to visit with friends over a cup of coffee. Many who frequent the store also bring donations and help sort what comes in and stock shelves.

FAQ’s

Q: Is it really free?
A: Absolutely! No strings attached.

Q: How much can I take?
A: One bag of clothing or toys per child per visit. We also have other items like car seats, baby backpacks, diaper bags, parenting & kids’ books.

Q: How does the Free Store keep going?
A: Three ways

  1. Through donations of clean, gently used items for children. Donations should be bagged and labeled “Free Store” and dropped off at New Life after church on Sunday or Tuesday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  2. Spread the word.
  3. Become a “Friend of the Free Store.”

Soup Ministry: On Wednesdays, rain or shine, volunteers from New Life and Cariboo Road Christian Fellowship alongside the Progressive Housing Outreach Van are in the back parking lot from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 pm serving hot soup to our homeless and underemployed neighbours. Over a dozen people from both churches make soup once a month for this ministry.

Bread Ministry: When most people are kicking back on a Saturday evening a few volunteers from New Life are picking up the unsold bread from Cobs Bakery in New Westminster. Once the bread is picked up neigbours arrive to bag it and distribute it to those who need it. The rest of the bread is delivered to New Life Sunday morning for further distribution through the Free Store, Soup Ministry and members.

Volunteering with these ministries a few hours a month can make a big difference in the lives of others. If you would like to be involved or know more about these ministries, please contact Esther Hizsa, 604 420-0761
